The Saturday Morning Mechanic
What would you like to see in an automotive repair blog? Tips? Tricks? Would you like to get to see just what it's really like on the other side of the counter? With close to forty years fixing cars and now as a shop owner and a writer and instructor there aren't many things that I haven't seen. I talk about a lot of those things on my radio show, the Saturday Morning Mechanic on WBVP/WMBA but it's early in the morning and of course being a small station has a limited broadcast range. But here we can discuss things at great lengths and I can include real repair photos and diagnostic data from scan tools and oscilloscopes.
Autotechtitude.
Today to be an automobile technician, it takes aptitude, because of the high tech nature of today's cars. You can't succeed with only raw mechanical talents anymore. It also takes a certain amount of attitude because we have to deal with a lot of false perceptions about us and the work that we do day in and day out. While some of the work that we do is still physical in nature and can be learned in a short period of time, top technicians today are faced with evolving technologies that have us studying daily to try and keep pace. Today technicians must have a solid back-ground in electronics is a must and a technician needs to be able to read and comprehend technical material at a very fast pace. A good friend of mine says that diagnostics is 80% research and 20% testing and I'd have to agree with him.
So with this blog we can encourage dialog that will help you better understand us and why we have to do the things that we do when it comes to diagnosing and repairing your car. We are out there fixing cars because we like the work and challenges that cars present. Plus we like to help when someone has a problem with one. By learning more about us and what we do, hopefully we can help make your next visit to a shop more comfortable.
